A crossbreed, or mixed breed dog, refers to a dog that has purebred dogs of different breeds as parents. Crossbreeds are sometimes slightly more popular because they have a lower chance of developing hereditary diseases.

Crossbreeds are often developed to produce an ideal mix of certain traits. An example is when one crosses a labrador and a golden retriever to create an excellent guide dog, a goldador. On the other hand, sometimes it can be difficult to predict exactly which genetic traits will be passed on from which parent.
